Basic Varnish Concept:

What is Varnish?

Varnish, is a kind of chemical mixture, which is used to protect or decorate objects’ surface. According to the varnish feature of transparent or non-transparent, it is divided into Lacquer and Paint.

What is Lacquer?

Lacquer, is the transparent varnish, it is transparent. When we say "a product is lacquered", it means the product is covered with transparent varnish.

What is paint?

Paint, means non-transparent varnish, it is not transparent, such as white, black, yellow, red, etc.

What is the difference between White Paint & White-Washed Paint?

White: Fully Covered paint, wood grain is NOT visible anymore.

White-Washed: Wood grain is still visible. In the Lacquer varnish, we mix some White Paint, it will be White-Washed. If we mix more white paint in the lacquer varnish, the White-Washed color will be heavier. If we mix less white paint in the lacquer varnish, the White-Washed color will be lighter.

So when we decide what colors we want to use, we can say:

1. I want Natural(means no lacquer, no paint);

2. I want Lacquered(means transparent varnish);

3. I want Light White-Washed(means mix a little bit white in the lacquer);

4. I want Heavy White-Washed(mean mix more white in the lacquer).
